hen I originally moved into my first office, I taped a picture to the side
of my computer that read: “Your Chance to Live What You Love”.
Every morning and every evening that inspirational motto is present at
the edge of my vision and in my heart’s sub consciousness. Now, as I sit writing
my next editor’s letter for Close Up, I smile and remember that message as it
has become my reality. Close Up was born as a magazine with an inspiration to
help you make the most of life. So, there were two goals for this magazine. One:
to present a snapshot to our areas of how far we have come since 2007, when
“local magazines” was a relatively new concept. Two: our second aim was to
highlight the fashion, beauty and celebrity mandate and bring this straight to your
doorstep. For the latter, and in our quest to give you a creative mix of content we
have for this issue dreamed up the ultimate cover star – Jamie Oliver. The internet
goes without saying has changed the way we live, and I have effortlessly grown
to realise that my i-phone remains my loyal ‘friend’. I carry it from room to room.
It’s the last thing I check at night and the first thing I grab in the morning. Always
actively seeking out brand new content through social media and realistically
more likely to crowd source information from our social networks than to ask an
expert. It is this way forward and it is these things I’ll keep in mind as we expand
more and more. One of the many pleasures of editing this magazine is that this is
a magazine that has always been able to encompass literature and living as well
as interpreting style and trends. This month – as always – we remain true to that
legacy. Enjoy this issue, enjoy the month and enjoy finding a message that will
make you smile and become your reality. Hopefully it is within the pages of Close
Up and when you do, let me know! I would love to hear from you.
